Through time I´ve learned how to observe my skin and how to satisfy it. As soon as I moved from Tropical weather to Mediterranean, my body demanded different products. Going back to my childhood I have to say I copied my mom all the time, so I grew up with the most popular body lotion: NIVEA. I guess now the roles have changed and she always wants to know, by my expertise, more natural options.
I don’t have a preference between lotions and oils. I like to apply moisturizing lotions during the day and at night before bedtime, oils. I do also alternate them between seasons, for example, autumn and winter the best option is Argan Oil which is ultra-hydrating and ideal for sensitive skin. I would also suggest applying a few drops after a shower while your body is still wet or combine it with Lipikar Body Milk from La Roche-Posay.
Another product I recommend to try is Marula firming botanical body oil from African Botanics. I called it “a boost of antioxidants” which is made for all skin types and their main ingredients, Marula and Pinotage Grape seed oil are specially selected for two purposes: firming and toning the skin. In Summer the temperatures are very high, and it is essential to help promote collagen in our skin.
Don´t be afraid of oils, take your time by massaging it, and after five minutes wear your cloth. I would also suggest exfoliating your skin before. It would enhance the appearance and quality of skin because they soak quickly and deeply. Cold-pressed organic oils are solvent free and contain no pesticides. Avoid synthetic oils (minerals oils); they will clog pores and cause breakouts or alter the hormonal system.
Every 24 hours, our skin releases 1 to 1 ½ quarts of moisture. Lotions contain bonus ingredients such as vitamin E, D, and shea butter that will nourish the skin. At the same time, be careful of fillers; avoid Retinyl Palmitate, the most controversial form of vitamin A; BHA; food preservative; DMDM Hydration, a type of formaldehyde; and Parabens.
Remember, the skin it´s the largest organ of our body, and it´s our protective barrier to, sometimes, the hostile environment. Whatever we apply, our bloodstream will absorb it. The fewer ingredients, better the product. Just make it a habit a read the labels.
